The story was set in Iowa, during one of the supposedly hottest summers in history, but the film was shot in Texas, in the dead of winter. Night exteriors were brutally cold on the actors, especially the scenes in the lake. We also had to put silk leaves on all the deciduous trees we saw in the shot. A lot of trouble, but it all worked out great. The film is one of my all time favorites.
